First of all, lets get the facts straight. This isn’t a Palestinian scarf, actually it’s just a scarf with fringes on it and happens to be black and white with a paisley pattern on it.
Secondly, I don’t feel that this sort of talk help with Western/Middle Eastern relations at all. I know that the problems between Palestine and Israel are heated to say the least but people need to understand that not all people from Palestine are terrorists.
Most Palestinian people are poor and are simply trying to survive without electricity, water or medical care. Can you imagine trying to live like that?
I really don’t want to turn this into a political debate but the majority of people in the UK actually disagree with the way that Israel treats the Palestinians. Israel is a very new country that was formed on Arab land which is why the Arab-Israeli war broke out. Israel have broken with the UN Partition Plan by expanding its borders.
This is the reason that so many Muslim terrorist organisations have emerged and this would never have happened otherwise. People need to be educated about such matters and not simply assume that all Arabs are terrorists out to stop the “American” way.
Instead of inciting fear into us all about other cultures, we should be learning about who our international neighbours are and find a way of getting on. Rachel Ray wearing a “Palestinian scarf” is somthing that people should try and learn to accept rather than get upset about.
Hi April, First, thanks for accepting my comment on the Norcent camera. I still haven’t decided whether to get it. Second, that was my first stop by your blog. I can’t believe that since then (yesterday) you’ve written five posts?! Wow, you are prolific! Third, regarding this post about Rachel Ray, can you post a picture of her in the scarf. Sounds like serious over-reaction. I look forward to following your blog! Steve
In case you don’t know, this blog is for the Blogger Unleashed contest that Vic is running. One of the things he says we shouldn’t do is to ad pictures or videos to a post because this will distract visitors. Once I get my ads up and running, I want people to click on them rather that be impressed by a beautiful looking blog. I hope that makes sense.
I hope that not all American think that Rachel Ray wearing a “Palestinian scarf” is considered to be promoting terrorists. Maybe I have taken the news a bit seriously. It’s just so nuts to me!
Re: being prolific at writing, I actually need to be writing even more articles. I can get through them quite quickly if I put my mind to it ![]()
It really is sad that a scarf can cause so much outrage but yet 12 soldiers have died not by gun fire but due to improper grounding of electrical wires and nobody seems in the least bit concerned. {sigh}
Rhonda
The whole thing is just silly and I’m glad people have stopped talking about it.
