Naltrexone is touted as a new drug for those with gambling problems. Up until now Naltrexone has been used for treating those with alcohol and drug problems however it also appears to be working well with gamblers. In tests, 40% of those who took Naltrexone were able to keep away from gambling for a month. However it should be noted that 10% of those who took a placebo also were able to abstain from gambling.

Anyway, I think this is a really good step in the right direction because I know that gambling problems can destroy relationships and really mess people’s lives up. My mum used to work beside a girl whose husband had a gambling problem. He would get dressed up in a suit and leave the house in the morning carrying his briefcase saying that he was going to work. It turned out he didn’t even have a job and was going out gambling instead. This caused them to get divorced to basically anything that can help with gambling problems must be a good thing.

However I’m sure that there will be a number of casino owners who will hate to hear this news, but tough! People need to treat gambling problems just like any other harmful addiction like drugs or alcohol.
