I knew that being a stuntman was dangerous but you don’t really expect to hear the awful news that a stuntman by the name of Lu Yanqing died on the set of the new John Woo film Red Cliff. Seemingly the accident occurred because of two boats colliding and it’s believed that gas cylinders were accidentally ignited. Film locations can certainly be dangerous places.
Red Cliff is a Chinese movie starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Hu Jun, Lin Chi-ling and Zhao Wei. The budget for the movie has been set at $80 million and is Asia’s biggest blockbuster so far.
We kinda tend to think that no one dies from their work but people die all the time, whether they are a stunt man, fireman or a factory worker. There are so many hazards in the work place with all sort of machinery, electrical currents, vehicles, chemicals and so forth. Probably the most known about is asbestos but understanding frequent workplace injuries will make the place more safe for us all. Some people think we are living in a “Nanny state” which we are to an extent. But remember how things used to be. There are people in India right now that are using heavy machinery whilst wearing flip flops when they should really be wearch steel toe-capped boots.
