As far as I’m concerned, school is for learning and teachers should only have to teach. They shouldn’t need to disipline the kids because that’s the parents job. I was always very well behaved at school and got anoyed when the teachers had to stop what they were doing in order to tell certain kids off.
It might not be so bad when kids are only 9 like Austin Lanham but when they get older in many cases they are much bigger and stronger than the teachers. Things can easily get out of hand and knifes and even guns are making appearances at school.
In order to prevent violence in school from happening, I think that children need to understand that teachers are in a posistion of authority and if they tell them to do something then it means that they need to do it. Whether it be to sit down or to shut up and get on with work. Perhaps taping Austin Lanham to chair was a little extreme but I’m sure the teacher was feeling at the end of their tether.
It is not acceptable for a child to be taped to a chair. That’s what the principles office is for. This is also why my son was removed from public schools years ago. You simply can not trust the “adults” in public schools to make wise decisions anymore.
